My pick

I don't have access to my email right now, but I'm posting my pick before the game starts: Chargers over Raiders.

Who would've known that Champ Bailey would get worked by Carson Palmer and Mr. Pepto? Here's hoping for a win next week. Pats continue their streak in an ugly game with a scoreless second half. Hey, 21 in a row is pretty even if they're all ugly.

AJ and E n' J: 4 pts
Al and Chuck: 3 pts

Everyone wins, except the guy who didn't pick the Pats

And that guy was me. How did Mike Martz manage to actually call a string of plays successful enough to net his team 17 points in a quarter? Maybe that smart guy from CSI was standing in and nobody knew it.

AJ asks "Do we need to adopt a system whereby everybody cannot pick the same friggin team in the same weekend?" Good point. Just 3 weeks in, and we have a 4-way tie for first place and a 4-way tie for last. I'm sure this is somehow related to AJ's point, I'm just not sure how...

So, as this pool is democratically governed and not averse to changing the rules halfway through, I thought we could spice things up a bit by not allowing anyone to pick from the 2 games having the biggest spread each weekend. I posted a link at the top of the sidebar. Just pick the week you want to see at the top of the page. Let me know your thoughts on the subject by posting a comment or through email. Due to the dynamic nature of spreads, we'll just enforce the rule at the time of the pick. For example, if Atlanta plays Philly and Mike Vick blows out his ACL on Saturday, the spread will spiral out of control. If you made your pick Friday, you're OK. Not to mention very lucky (if you picked Philly).

BTW, if anyone has a better / alternative idea, let me know. For example, I've tossed around the possibility of allowing a double-or-nothing second pick each week, but the pick has to be for an underdog. Any ideas are welcome. Submit them in time for a caucus before next weekend.

MNF results

Sadly for J&S, the Chiefs somehow managed to win. I think their porous run defense got a break playing against a guy who's more worried about his jail time this summer than running the ball well. The standings from Monday's post remain unchanged.

This just in! MNF pick for J&S

They take the Ravens over the Chiefs tonight.

October 3 results

AJ: Pats over Bills. Pats win, 31-17.

Al: Pack over Giants. Giants win 14-7. An ugly game all-around, featuring a Favre concussion and 3 QBs for the Packers.

Chuck: Eagles over Bears. Eagles win 19-9. I thought this pick was dangerous, and Philly played ugly. But hey, it's the Bears, so you can get away with it.

Julia and Sorens: No pick sent in, due to travel and general lovey-doveyness.

Standings:

Chuck: 2 pts
AJ: 1 pt
Al: 1 pt
J&S: 1 pt
